1. BD ALCOHOL SWABS

The first step in administering insulin using a syringe is to prepare the skin. DB has one of the most widely used alcohol prep pads designed to help you prepare sites for insulin injections. BD alcohol swabs are thicker and softer than many other swabs, helping ensure reliable site preparation for safe, hygenic insulin injections. They are also appropriate for other household uses.

2. BD MAGNI-GUIDE INSULIN SYRINGE MAGNIFIER

The BD Magni-Guide Insulin Syringe Magnifier works as both an insulin syringe scale magnifier and a needle guide. It is designed to offer dexterity for patients who need help stabilizing the insulin syringe and vial while injecting, and magnification for patients who need help reading the scale on the syringe.

FEATURES

  • Magnification: It magnifies the scale 1.7 times for easier reading.
  • Syringe sizes: The device fits 1-mL/cc, 1/2-mL/cc and 3/10-mL/cc BD insulin syringes.
  • Needle Retainment: After the device clips the needle from the insulin syringe, the clipper automatically and safely retains the needle.

3. BD SAFE-CLIP NEEDLE CLIPPING

Once you’re done administering insulin you must safely dispose the needle. The BD Safe-Clip needle clipping and storage device enables you to safely and easily remove insulin syringe and pen needles, retaining them within the clipper.

FEATURES

  • Convenient Capacity: The portable BD Safe-Clip device holds up to 1,500 clipped needles, which is approximately a two-year supply.
  • Clipping Safety: The BD Safe-Clip device clips off the insulin syringe needle, making the insulin syringe safely unusable.

4. BD HOME SHARPS CONTAINER OR COLLECTOR

The final step in the injection process is to ensure the used needles are properly stored and disposed. Designed to hold both insulin syringes and pen needles, the BD Home Sharps Container is a leak-proof and puncture-resistant container for safe, convenient disposal of used sharps. It has a permanently locking, snap-top lid and holds 70 to 100 insulin syringes or 300 pen needles. The syringe capacity depends on the size of the syringe being disposed of.

Please note that the container is made for disposal of insulin syringes and pen needles only. Other types of syringes do not fit.

FEATURES

  • 1-2/5 Quarts
  • Leak Resistant
  • Puncture Resistant
  • Snap Lock Lid
  • Can hold 70 to 100 insulin syringes or 300 pen needles

Important! The rules and regulations regarding sharps disposal may be different in towns and counties around the country, so check with your local sanitation or health department. When the BD Home Sharps Container is full, seal it and check with your community how to dispose of it properly. If, as a last resort, you choose to put it in a trash receptacle, do not place it in a recycling bin because insulin syringes, pen needles and lancets are not recyclable.

Final words

An insulin dose can be administered by insulin syringes, insulin pen needles, or insulin pumps. It is your choice which option to use (after consulting your options with your healthcare professionals) as each one have their own advantages. If you choose to administer insulin by syringes it would be a good idea to equip yourself with the aforementioned supplies.
