    According to Miami Herald, for diabetic patient who were diagnosed early with diabetic retinopathy intravitreal  injection can be effective. In this procedure medicine is injected in patient’s eye, near the retina, which counteracts the damage to the blood vessels.

  • Researchers use math in search for diabetes cure
    In an ambitious search for a cure for Type 2 diabetes a mathematics professor from Florida State University has successfully reactivated oscillations in insulin-producing pancreatic beta cells — one of the first necessary steps to resurrecting the dormant cells and restoring the production of insulin.

  • Artificial pancreas safe for hospitalized diabetics
    Scientists at the University of Cambridge Metabolic Research Laboratories performed a study in which they compared closed loop insulin delivery versus conventional insulin injections in 40 adults with Type 2 diabetes. Patients with the artificial pancreas spent about 60 percent of the three-day study period in their target blood sugar range, compared to an average 38 percent of the time in the comparison group.

  • Medicare to roll out diabetes prevention program in 2018
    The US Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced that, as of January 1, 2018, it will be expanding the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) out from its current pilot to provide coverage for all eligible at-risk beneficiaries with prediabetes who are aged 65 years or older Medicare beneficiaries who have had gestational diabetes and are at high risk for developing type 2 diabetes will also be eligible.
