So helpful! Our dog was diagnosed with diabetes a couple months ago and this device has been an absolute game changer for us. At first we were able to give him his shots quite easily just by using the syringe like the vet suggested. After about a week though he started to get very aggressive when we tried to give him his injections. He especially did not like it when his skin was tented. It was getting really bad and we absolutely dreaded injection time. We even had to skip an injection because he almost bit us. We came across this device from a review on YouTube. It has made shot time much easier. It’s not perfect, but has eased a lot of anxiety. We began by using the auto injector without a needle in it. This helped him get used to the loud clicking sound. We did have to buy new needles to use this. You have to find a syringe with a pretty long needle. He needs 3 units of U-100 insulin and we ordered 29G .5 inch .3cc. There is a syringe guide included but it took a lot of searching to find one that would work for us and wasn’t overly expensive. We ordered the UltiCare brand. We still need to do the injections with two people. One person giving the injection and the other distracting him with a treat. We have not been able to get him to sit still and let us do the injection without someone distracting him. Luckily he loves red peppers so we can give him a couple without it being bad for him. The injections do not hurt him at all. The device is so fast that I think he doesn’t even know it’s happening. It’s not perfect every time and he still growls occasionally but the improvement has been amazing. You still have to tent the skin which he does not enjoy. I’m hoping that we will eventually be able to work up to being able to do it with one person. If you are struggling with injections, this will help!
