Attention Unistrip users. Taz is here. I wanted to pop in really quickly and share some exciting news. As you know UniStrip1 is a generic alternative to the OneTouch Ultra test strips. I am personally a big fan of this test strip because it’s affordable and delivers accurate results with the highly reliable OneTouch Ultra meters.

What’s the good news? Unistrip Technologies, the manufacturer of Unistrip1 test strips, has recently revamped their line with a NEW packaging. The new Unistrip1 packaging appears to be slightly different than the old one. Let’s see what’s changed.

Background to Unistrip1 for first-timers

UniStrip1 blood glucose test strips offer an inexpensive alternative to the expensive OneTouch Ultra Blue test strips. UniStrip test strips are ideal for cash patients. Here is a quick view of Unistrip1 vs OneTouch Ultra Blue.

My Thoughts on the New Unistrip1 Packaging

I really like the new packaging. I find it to be more informative. Although the overall scheme and colors seem to have remained the same, the new packaging appears to be more customer centric. For example, the meter activation code 49 now appears on the front side of the box. I also like that they have included pictures of compatible meters with the Unistrip1.

The addition of pictures to the front side of the box will help users ensure they get the correct test strips for their meter. We had seen a few incidents here at Diabetic Outlet where customers bought Unistrip1 to use with their OneTouch Verio meters after a quick glance at the prints on the old box, thinking the Unistrip1 will work with all OneTouch meters. Unistrip1 only works with OneTouch ULTRA meters including Ultra2, UltraSmart, and UltraMini. Unistrip1 does NOT work with OneTouch Verio meters.

Biggest Improvement

The biggest improvement in the new packaging appears to be a wider range of the OneTouch Ultra meters that use Unistrip1. According to the footprints on the new packaging, Unistrip1 is now for use with OneTouch Ultra2, OneTouch UltraMini, and OneTouch UltraSmart meters purchased before April 2016, where as the old Unistrip1 test strips were for use with OneTouch Ultra, OneTouch Ultra2, OneTouch UltraMini, and OneTouch UltraSmart meters purchased before October 2012.

What else has changed? The dimensions.

The new Unistrip1 box is wider, skinner, and taller than the old box. The new dimensions are roughly 2.5″ W x 1.5″ L x 3 1/4″ H, as opposed to the old box which was 1 3/4″ W x 1 3/4″ L x 2 1/4″ H. I’d like to think that this is another improvement. From the merchant’s perspective the new dimensions make the box easier to package.

Lastly, looking at the old and new packaging side by side I notice that text content on the box has slightly changed. The new packaging features a new circle on the front that says “Compared to OneTouch Ultra Blue Test Strips.” Furthermore, two of the main features of Unstrip1 (tiny blood sample size & automatically draws blood into strips) have been removed in the new packaging.

What has not changed

According to Unistrip Technologies, the Unistrip1 test strip itself remains unchanged. Even the size of the test strip and the vial containing the individual strips have not changed. The only difference between the old and new Unistrip1 packaging is the dimension, design, and the text stating that the Unistrip1 is now for use with OneTouch Ultra2, OneTouch UltraMini, and OneTouch UltraSmart meters purchased before April 2016.
