ADVOCATE TEST STRIPS FOR ALTERNATE SITE TESTING (AST)

According to the Advocate RediCode+ Speaking Meter User Manual, the Advocate test strips are approved for Alternate Site Testing (AST) meaning you can use Advocate test strips to test your glucose levels by drawing samples from areas other than your fingertips including the palm, the upper-arm, the calf, or the thigh with the equivalent results to fingertip  testing. These areas of your body are called alternate sites. Since nerve ending (receptors) are not so condensed at alternate sites, test performed there will be less painful.

WHEN YOU SHOULD USE ADVOCATE TEST STRIPS FOR ALTERNATE SITE TESTING

Using Advocate test strips for Alternate Site Testing (AST) would have to be performed at certain times to ensure reliable glucose readings. According to the Advocate RediCode+ Speaking Meter User Manual, alternate site results may be different from fingertip results when glucose levels are changing rapidly. Use Advocate test strips for Alternate Site Testing (AST) only when it has been more than 2 hours after any one of the following:

  • A meal
  • Diabetes
  • Exercise

Important. When testing your blood glucose level during or immediately after meals, medication, physical exercise, or any other event, use the Advocate test strips to take blood sample from finger only.
